H3 Max vs H3 Max Turbo: Which One Should You Use?

Compare H3 Max and H3 Max Turbo by endpoint, controls, speed, price, and reference workflow—and see which model this generator actually uses.

The standard generator on this site uses H3 Max Turbo. Text mode calls minimax/h3-max-turbo/text-to-video; image mode calls minimax/h3-max-turbo/image-to-video. “H3 Max” is the product-family name shown to creators, while Turbo is the exact endpoint used for those two jobs.

That distinction matters because H3 Max and H3 Max Turbo are separate fal endpoints with separate prices. It does not mean that every page needs a model switch. For text-to-video, fal documents the same core request body on both variants; Turbo is positioned as faster and has half the standard list rate.

What happens when you press Generate here

This is the route map behind the interface:

What you provideRoute used by this siteWhat the route does not imply
Text promptminimax/h3-max-turbo/text-to-videoNo hidden switch to regular H3 Max after the prompt is submitted
First image, optional ending image, and promptminimax/h3-max-turbo/image-to-videoNo reference video or reference audio input
Photos in a supported theme generatorminimax/h3-max/reference-to-videoThe ordinary generator does not expose this multi-reference workflow

The standard interface also narrows the upstream contract deliberately. It offers 480P and 768P, although both fal text endpoints document a 1080P latent-refinement option. Image mode here requires a starting image and may also take an ending image. The upstream image endpoint additionally allows end-only or text-only requests, which this UI does not expose.

In other words, the model name in the navigation tells you the family. The cost below the Generate button and the route above tell you the actual job.

H3 Max and Turbo share more than their name

fal's current technical comparison says the standard text endpoints accept the same request body. Shared fields include prompt, duration, resolution, aspect ratio, seed, safety, sync mode, prompt expansion, and optional target audio in the live Max and Turbo schemas. Their documented defaults are five seconds, 768P, 16:9, and balanced expansion. This site restricts duration to whole seconds from 5 through 15 and does not expose target-audio input in the standard UI.

What clearly changes is simpler:

PositioningPost-trained H3 variantHigher-throughput post-trained H3 variant
Standard 768P list rate$0.08/sec$0.04/sec

fal's Turbo endpoint description says the speed work comes with no compromise on output quality. That is the provider's positioning, not a guarantee about every prompt. It is still a good reason not to invent a universal rule that regular Max must be the “final render” and Turbo must be the “preview.”

Our product decision follows the documented contract: when two routes accept the same standard inputs, the faster and cheaper route is the sensible default. A user-visible toggle would add a decision without unlocking a new input in this interface.

The dollar price and the credit price are different things

fal's detailed standard rates, checked October 15, 2026, are:

ResolutionH3 MaxH3 Max TurboFive-second Turbo output
480P$0.05/sec$0.025/sec$0.125
768P$0.08/sec$0.04/sec$0.20
1080P$0.16/sec$0.08/sec$0.40

There is a timing footnote. On October 15, the individual model pages still showed a 40% promotion with an October 15 end date. fal did not print a cutoff timezone. The table uses the standard list rates instead of turning a deadline-day price into an evergreen promise.

Those are upstream API charges, not prices charged by this site. A standard generation here costs 3 credits per second at 480P or 5 credits per second at 768P. The shortest five-second request is therefore 15 or 25 credits. The credit and cost guide explains the plans and packs; it does not pretend that a site credit is a fixed amount of upstream compute.

Regular H3 Max matters when the route changes

The most useful reason to leave Turbo is not the adjective on the model. It is a different input contract.

H3 Max has a separate reference-to-video route. It can condition a new clip on several reference assets, and it introduces reference-token billing after an included allowance. Insert, Lip Sync, Recast, and Camera Controls are separate routes again. Each has its own required inputs and limits.

That gives developers and creators a cleaner routing rule:

New clip from text only -> H3 Max Turbo text-to-video
New clip from a first image,
with an optional ending image -> H3 Max Turbo image-to-video
Several supported references  -> H3 Max reference-to-video
Edit, replace, or steer video -> Read that dedicated endpoint's contract

This site follows the first three branches only where the interface explicitly asks for those inputs. The ordinary generator does not accept a motion-reference video or an audio-reference file. Some photo-led theme generators use the reference branch, but their workflow and credit rate are shown separately.

For the audio branches, use H3 Max Custom Audio: Target, Reference, or Lip Sync?. For the distinction between fal's post-trained family and MiniMax's original foundation model, use H3 Max vs MiniMax H3.

If you are switching an API integration

The matching request bodies make the text endpoint easy to change, but a safe migration is more than editing one string.

  1. Record the endpoint with every job. Store the exact model ID beside the request ID so a later output can be traced to Max or Turbo.
  2. Keep billing separate from request validation. The same duration can produce a different charge even when the JSON is identical.
  3. Do not silently add 1080P to an existing UI. fal describes it as latent refinement from native 768P; the extra option changes price and user expectations.
  4. Check the response fields you persist. Treat expanded_prompt and timing data as optional or nullable. Inside video, persist the required URL and tolerate a missing content type, file name, or file size.
  5. Leave reference jobs on their reference route. Replacing a reference endpoint with the regular Max or Turbo text endpoint discards the inputs that gave the job its meaning.

If you measure speed after the switch, time from submission until the result file is playable. fal's inference field describes backend work, not queueing, prompt expansion, delivery, and the user's entire wait. The generation-speed guide separates those clocks.

The answer in one line

For a new video from text, or from a required starting image with an optional ending image, use H3 Max Turbo; that is already what our standard generator runs. Reach for another H3 Max endpoint only when its distinct input contract—references, editing, lip sync, camera keyframes, or another specialized job—is the feature you actually need.

The next shot is yours

Take the idea into the studio.

Start with a prompt or an image. Choose the duration and resolution, then check the credit cost before you generate.
